Making origami is very interesting and simple at the same time. To create fascinating paper figures, you need to be patient and persevering, because this is a very delicate and painstaking work. To do everything carefully and accurately, it is important to follow the instructions. There are many designs and options for various animals, plants and other crafts, each of which will decorate your home. Today we will tell you how to make a double swan with your own hands.

Necessary materials

To create the base of the swan you will only need album sheets. You can also prepare several pieces of colored paper to decorate the finished product. And, of course, you can’t do without scissors.

Important information: The sheets must be of standard density and A4 format, since origami may not work if you use another material.

To assemble the swan, we will need to prepare many small components. They are also called modules.

What is modular origami?

Modular origami is a unique method of creating three-dimensional objects. This style first appeared in China and became the main one when assembling different figures from a huge number of identical parts. They come in different types, but the classic, triangular ones are most often used. For a double swan these are exactly what you will need. They are made using a certain technology, which allows you to connect finished parts by nesting one into the other. As a result, the friction force will hold them together and the models will not fall apart. The structure will be strong, but, at the same time, remain flexible and elastic.

In order to make a classic triangular module, you need to cut a landscape sheet into 32 equal parts. This is not at all difficult to do, just bend the sheet in half 5 times in a row and cut it along the fold line with scissors or a stationery knife. Now that the “material” has been prepared, we can begin making the model.

There is nothing complicated in the design of the modules. Therefore, let's start making our swan. This is what you should end up with:

End result, origami swan

And this is what the material from which it will be made looks like:

Material required for work

In order to make such an impressive mountain of blanks, a lot of material will be required. It takes approximately 5-7 hours to create modules. If you have helpers, involve them in the work - together it’s more fun and faster.

As you can see in the photo, we need to prepare a lot of modular parts, approximately 1.5 thousand. If you plan to make the swan monochromatic, use only one paper. But you can create an unusual multi-colored or bright swan - for this you need to buy multi-colored A4 sheets in advance. Our version uses 1322 white and 180 pink modules.

When you have made the blanks, you can begin the main part of the work - assembly.

Step-by-step instructions for performing a double swan

We offer you clear step-by-step instructions for assembling a double swan from prepared materials:

  1. We combine several modules in this way.

    Step 1

  2. Then we connect 60 modules (in 2 rows of 30 pieces each) in a circle so that it looks like in the figure.

    Step 2

  3. We take the next steps in the same way. We already have 5 ready-made rows.

    Step 3

  4. We reached 10 rows. Keep in mind that while working you need to bend the workpiece slightly inward - this way you will make it slimmer.

    Step 4

  5. Lay out 5 more rows. Don’t forget to bend and tighten the workpiece so that our swan turns out beautiful and voluminous.

    Step 5

  6. Now that 15 rows have already been assembled, let's start creating the neck, tail and wings. Set aside 6 modules for the neck, 4 for the tail, and 10 for the wings.

    Step 6

  7. Let's start creating the neck.

    Step 7

  8. Now we collect the tail. It should be located strictly opposite the neck.

    Step 8

  9. Assembling the wings. For the first row of each wing we will need 10 modules.

    Step 9

  10. Let's move on to the second row. From the tail side you need to put on the module, as shown in the figure.

    Step 10

  11. We continue to work on the wings. We put on the next rows the same number of modules as in the previous row.

    Step 11

  12. We are gradually collecting the wings of our double swan from 10 rows. It is important to assemble both wings at the same time, maintaining the same height in each part on different parts.

    Step 12

  13. When 10 rows are lined up, for each subsequent row we use 1 less piece.

    Step 13

  14. Ultimately, you should end up with a product like this. You will spend 770 modules on it. Most of the work has been done.

    Step 14

  15. In order for the resulting structure to be stable, it is necessary to create a stand. Lubricate the modules with glue and secure them. Try to do it evenly so that the craft has reliable support.

    Step 15

  16. When the first row is dry, start gluing the second.

    Step 16

  17. Let's move on to the next component of our craft - the inner wings. We do everything according to a well-established scheme, only we lay out 20 modules in each row.

    Step 17

  18. Make 7 rows. Don't forget to pull the workpiece out from time to time.

    Step 18

  19. We raise our wings. Select 10 modules per side.

    Step 19

  20. Assemble 3 rows as shown in the picture.

    Step 20

  21. When you get to this stage, reduce the number of modules by 1 in each subsequent row.

    Step 21

  22. When you're done, you should have these amazing wings.

    Step 22

  23. Let's start working on the third component. We work according to the same scheme, but introduce 2 more additional modules. Now there should be 12 of them.

    Step 23

  24. We raise the structure to 6 rows.

An elegant, proud, regal bird – these are the epithets poetic natures bestow upon the swan. And the swan couple also personifies love and fidelity, although in nature this is not at all the case. Making a swan with your own hands means not just making another craft, it is something more, carrying a certain energy load to attract love and happiness into your life. This article tells you how to make a swan out of paper.

From one sheet

Scheme for assembling a small swan from a square sheet:

How to make a swan craft step by step:

  1. Diagonal folds are made on a square sheet;
  2. The sheet must be folded in half lengthwise and crosswise;
  3. Having received the necessary folds, a double triangle is folded;
  4. The side triangles are bent towards the central axis. First the lower ones, then the upper ones;
  5. The upper ones open back, and the top of the diamond bends down. The whole figure is squashed and smoothed out;
  6. The layer of paper on top rises and is pulled upward;
  7. One triangle bends from left to right;
  8. The whole figure is bent in the middle;
  9. The inner triangles are pulled out to the sides;
  10. Now you need to slightly stretch the swan by grasping the points at the junction of the triangles;
  11. Pull first along, then vertically;
  12. A swan's head is formed from the edge of the left triangle.

Craft from modules

There is such a direction in the art of origami as assembling products from modules.

At first glance, it may seem that making such a voluminous swan is very difficult. Actually this is not true. Making modules is a very simple task; assembling figures from them is also not difficult.

The most difficult thing is that the larger the figure, the greater the number of modules that need to be made. If the paper sculpture must consist of several colors, then it is important not to get confused about the color.

For modular figures, A4 office paper is best suited. It is dense enough to hold the desired shape and does not tear at the folds.

Origami is one of the fun creative activities that does not require a ton of tools and materials. As a result, it is low-cost. All you need to create paper masterpieces is to be careful and patient. Today we will learn how to make an origami swan in two ways: a simple model using one sheet of paper and modular origami.

Materials and tools

As was already said at the very beginning, origami does not require the preparation of special materials for creativity, all we need is:

  • paper (standard A4 paper is perfect - it folds easily and holds its shape);
  • scissors;
  • skillful hands and a little patience.

Let's prepare a workplace to make it more convenient to create. We can start.

A paper swan is best suited for mastering the origami technique. Probably, everyone who is interested in this type of creativity began with just such a swan. And not in vain, because despite the simplicity of execution, the swan looks very cute.

I offer you a simple photo instruction on how to make a swan using the origami technique:

  1. Take a square sheet of paper (you can take ready-made stickers that are sold at any stationery store) and fold it diagonally.
  2. We straighten the sheet, then to the diagonal drawn, fold the edges to form a corner.
  3. We turn it over and repeat the procedure, the corner becomes sharper.
  4. Divide in half, connecting the upper and lower corners.
  5. We make a swan's head by bending a smaller angle.
  6. Bend the workpiece in half.
  7. We move the part of the paper that is the swan's head, as shown in the photo.
  8. We straighten the folds so that the swan can be in an upright position.
  9. Our swan is ready.

Our warm-up has come to an end, now let's move on to a more difficult task. The next stage is the creation of modular origami.

The swan in this design looks simply magnificent. At first glance, the design seems very complicated, but soon you will find out how easy it is to create beautiful models using the origami technique. You just need to familiarize yourself with the step-by-step execution of the model.

There are many options for making a paper swan. Origami allows you to give new lines to products using imagination and certain skills.

We manufacture modules

The main thing you need to learn is how to compose a module (the parts that make up the entire structure).

It is done as follows:

  1. To obtain pieces of paper of the required size, divide a standard A4 sheet into 16 equal parts.
  2. We need to assemble modules from the blanks. The number of components depends on the size of the future model.
  3. Place the rectangular piece horizontally and fold it in half.
  4. We do the same thing vertically.
  5. We bend the edges to the bend.
  6. From the back it looks like this.
  7. Fold the corners up, leaving a small gap.
  8. Raise the edges up, as shown in the photo.
  9. Fold the module vertically.
  10. When finished it looks like this:

It is with the help of such parts that you can assemble a model of any animal or bird; for this you just need to strictly follow the assembly diagram.

Collecting the Swan

Let's move on to the main part of making the craft - assembling the modules into the intended craft. Let's consider two options for how to make a swan: from white and colored modules.

First option:

  1. We take three modules and connect them, as shown in the photo:

  1. We attach the following two modules to the structure:

This design is completely fragile, so you should assemble the first three rows without pausing. Otherwise, your structure may fall apart.

  1. With the third row we make the structure more stable:

  1. After completing the third row you should get this design:

The first row of this design consists of 30 modules, then in increasing order.

  1. We continue the construction by constructing the fourth and fifth rows. This is done according to the same principle as the previous ones.

  1. Lightly turn the structure inside out, holding it with two fingers so as not to destroy it:

You should end up with a design like this:

  1. We make the sixth row without changing the sequence of actions.
  2. Proceeding to the next row, you will have to mark the position of the neck and tail. We put on 12 modules as usual, then skip two (leaving room for the neck) and put on the next 12 modules. The remaining space between them will be taken by the tail. And 12 modules on both sides give rise to the wings of a swan.

  1. Starting from the ninth row, each wing will decrease by one element.

  1. We continue to reduce the wings until they are crowned with one module:

  1. Let's move on to the tail. It is also done by decreasing by one module with each row.

  1. The final stage is drawing up the neck and head. We will need 19 white and one red blank. In the red module we glue the corners to get a beak. In order to assemble the neck, we proceed as shown in the picture, inserting the modules into each other:

  1. As you go, create a natural swan neck curve:

  1. All that remains is to insert the finished neck into place. The module swan is ready!

The second option repeats the first, but is made of corners of different colors. This version of the swan using the modular origami technique is called “rainbow”. To make a rainbow model, we will need modules of different colors. We will not describe the actions in detail this time, since their order is no different from that described above.

Based on the main principles of modeling in this technique, it is possible to build models of different shapes and colors. Combine similar colors, or play with contrast. Models look great in black and white; you can also create a smooth transition using the ombre principle - from a light shade to a darker one, or vice versa.
